Maria “Giggles” Respeto
Giggles, born Maria Respeto, was a freestyle singer from East Harlem, New York, who rose to fame in the late 1980s. She made her mark with tracks like “Love Letter,” “What Comes Around Goes Around” and the album “He Loves Me… He Loves Me Not,” released on Cutting Records. Known for her energetic vocals and catchy hooks, Giggles became a staple in the freestyle scene, earning a loyal fan base in clubs and on dance charts. She continues to perform at freestyle festivals and events, celebrating a genre that shaped a generation of Latin dance music.
Sadly, Maria “Giggles” Respeto passed away on March 18, 2024. She will always be remembered as the great freestyle diva she was!
About Giggles
Giggles was born Maria Respeto in Santurce, Puerto Rico, and moved to New York at eleven. She studied performing arts at Lehman College in the Bronx, and Cutting Records released “Love Letter” in the late 1980s, the single that made her a fixture of the New York club scene.
