Biography
Taylor Dayne grew up in Baldwin, Long Island, and sang in local rock bands before a demo called “Tell It to My Heart” changed everything. Arista released the single in 1987, and its pounding freestyle-derived beat carried her voice onto dance floors and pop radio at the same time. The song reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a worldwide hit.
The album of the same name launched a remarkable run. Dayne scored seven consecutive top-ten singles between 1987 and 1990, including “Prove Your Love,” “I’ll Always Love You,” and the #1 ballad “Love Will Lead You Back.” Her voice, bigger and rougher than most singers working dance-pop, gave the records a soul edge the genre rarely had.
