Biography
Alisha was a Brooklyn teenager when Vanguard Records released “All Night Passion” in 1984, one of the earliest records to carry the sound that would be named freestyle. She recorded “Baby Talk” the following year, and the single topped Billboard’s dance chart while she was still in high school.
“Too Turned On” kept her in the clubs through 1985 and 1986, and the three singles together made her one of freestyle’s founding voices. Madonna comparisons followed her constantly in that era. The records hold up on their own terms: bright, tough Brooklyn dance-pop from the genre’s first generation.
She later signed to RCA for the album Nightwalkin’ and continued performing into the freestyle reunion era. Her first three singles remain her legacy, and all three appear on this site.
