Biography
Corina Katt Ayala came out of the South Bronx and recorded her earliest singles for Cutting Records, the New York independent that served as freestyle’s farm system. “Out of Control” and “Give Me Back My Heart” built her club reputation in the late 1980s.
“Temptation” made her a national name. Released in 1991 on Cutting/Atco, the single climbed to #6 on the Billboard Hot 100, one of the highest chart positions any freestyle record achieved. Her debut album followed the same year.
Corina wrote much of her own material, unusual for the genre, and later worked in acting and television. “Temptation” still anchors freestyle radio programming and reunion shows, and her three singles on this site trace the full arc from Cutting Records club act to national chart artist.
