Biography
Lisette Melendez grew up in East Harlem, and her voice carries that neighborhood’s freestyle pedigree. She worked with producer Carlos Berrios, and Fever Records, in partnership with Columbia, released “Together Forever” in 1991.
The single became one of the biggest freestyle records of the decade, a national hit that crossed from club radio to the pop charts and never left freestyle playlists afterward. “A Day in My Life (Without You)” continued her run in 1992, and her debut album Together Forever collected both.
Melendez remains a headliner on the freestyle concert circuit, where “Together Forever” is a guaranteed sing-along. The song ranks high on this site’s Top 100 by Spotify play data, proof that its audience keeps renewing itself three decades on.
