Biography
George Lamond was born George Garcia in Washington, D.C., and raised in New York. “Bad of the Heart” first appeared on the small New York independent Ligosa before Columbia signed him and took the single national in 1990, where it reached the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of freestyle’s late crossover hits.
“Without You” and “Look Into My Eyes” continued his run on Columbia, showcasing one of the genre’s genuinely big voices.
Lamond then did what few freestyle singers managed: he built a second career in Spanish. His salsa recordings for Sony’s Latin division made him a chart presence in a second language, and he still moves between both songbooks on stage. Three of his freestyle singles appear on this site.
