Hanson & Davis recorded for Fresh Records, the dance imprint of New York’s Sleeping Bag Records, and “Hungry for Your Love” arrived in 1986 as one of the duo’s defining singles.
The record captures the exact moment club music in New York was hardening into freestyle: soulful duet vocals over drum-machine programming, released on the same label family that gave the scene Joyce Sims and Mantronix. “Hungry for Your Love” became a club and mix-show standard on the East Coast.
The duo cut several more singles for Fresh through the late 1980s. “Hungry for Your Love” remains the one the freestyle audience kept, anthologized on genre compilations and still in play on this site’s Top 100.
