Biography
Nancy Martinez came from Montreal, one of the few Canadian voices in a genre built in New York and Miami. “For Tonight,” released on Atlantic in 1986, reached #2 on Billboard’s dance chart and crossed onto the Hot 100, and her album Not Just the Girl Next Door followed.
“Move Out” extended her club run, mixing freestyle, dance-pop, and Hi-NRG in the border-crossing style that marked her records.
Martinez kept recording into the 1990s and remains a touring presence on the classic dance circuit. Both of her singles on this site come from her Atlantic peak.
