Biography
Shana came out of South Florida, and “I Want You,” released on Miami’s Vision Records in 1989, became one of late-80s freestyle’s crossover moments, reaching the Billboard Hot 100 while ruling the genre’s club and radio base.
Her ballad-ready voice always sat slightly apart from the genre’s harder edges, and she later proved the point by recording country music as Shana Petrone, charting on country radio in the late 1990s.
“I Want You” remains her freestyle landmark, a Vision Records classic that still anchors slow-jam segments of old-school sets, and it holds its place on this site’s Top 100.
