Biography
T.P.E. stood for The Philadelphia Experiment, a project created in 1991 by Philadelphia producer Adam Marano, who was its only permanent member. Micmac Records released “Then Came You,” written by Amy Friedman, and the single reached #91 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the label a national chart record.
The 1992 album T.P.E. Featuring Adam Marano drew on Philadelphia’s freestyle bench, with contributions from Denine and Jade Starling of Pretty Poison. Further singles ran through 1994, when Marano closed the project.
Marano’s next act mattered as much as his first: he went on to create Collage, whose “I’ll Be Loving You” also appears on this site. “Then Came You” remains the record that put Philadelphia freestyle on the national chart.
