La India Biography
La India, born Linda Viera Caballero in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, is a singer who first gained attention in the late 1980s with freestyle and Latin dance tracks, then transitioned to become one of the most prominent female voices in salsa music. Raised in the South Bronx, she earned the moniker “La Princesa de la Salsa” through her powerful vocal performances and landmark collaborations with salsa greats such as Eddie Palmieri. Over the years, La India’s repertoire has included both English- and Spanish-language releases, showcasing her versatility and earning multiple Grammy nominations. Despite evolving into a leading figure in salsa, her early freestyle roots remain a key part of her musical legacy.
