Biography
Nayobe Gomez, Brooklyn-born and of Cuban descent, was singing at the very start of freestyle. “Please Don’t Go,” released in 1985, stands among Fever Records’ first singles and among the earliest records the genre can claim, cut when she was still a teenager.
“Second Chance for Love” and “Good Things Come to Those Who Wait” carried her through the late 1980s, and she later recorded toward Latin pop and salsa, following her voice’s natural range.
Freestyle histories consistently place Nayobe among the genre’s founders. All three of her singles appear on this site, and “Please Don’t Go” plays here in its original 1985 Fever recording.
