Biography
Sweet Sensation formed in the Bronx in the mid-1980s: Betty LeBron with sisters Margie and Mari Fernandez. Their debut album Take It While It’s Hot (1988) on Atco produced a run of freestyle radio and club hits, including the title track, “Sincerely Yours,” and “Hooked on You,” and made them one of the genre’s defining girl groups.
“If Wishes Came True,” from the 1990 album Love Child, reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the commercial summit of the group’s career and one of freestyle-pop’s biggest moments.
Lineup changes followed, but the group’s records never left freestyle rotation. Three Sweet Sensation songs appear on this site, and “Hooked on You” leads the site’s play-count data among them.
