Lime Biography

Before freestyle crystallized as a genre, Lime was already perfecting the formula—infectious hooks, pulsing synthesizers, and vocals built for maximum dancefloor impact. The Canadian duo helped define the Hi-NRG sound that would influence dance music on both sides of the Atlantic throughout the 1980s.

Formed in Montreal by husband-and-wife team Denis and Denyse LePage, Lime emerged in 1980 with a sound that split the difference between fading disco and the electronic pop explosion just around the corner. Denis handled production and songwriting while Denyse provided the sweet, soaring vocals that became the group’s signature.

Their 1981 single “Your Love” announced their arrival—a bouncy, synth-driven track that climbed the dance charts and introduced their winning formula. But it was 1982’s “Babe, We’re Gonna Love Tonight” that broke them wide open. The song was pure Hi-NRG bliss—a galloping bassline, shimmering synths, and an irresistible chorus that made it a staple in clubs from New York to Ibiza.

Lime kept the hits coming throughout the early 80s. “Angel Eyes” (1983) delivered moody sophistication, while “Say You Love Me” brought the euphoria. Their albums Lime (1981), Lime II (1982), Lime 3 (1983), and Sensual Sensation (1984) provided a steady stream of club ammunition, earning them a devoted following in the U.S., Canada, and across Europe.

Though the LePage partnership eventually dissolved and lineups shifted, the Lime catalog endures. Their tracks remain fixtures at retro nights and Hi-NRG revivals—timeless reminders of an era when the beat never stopped.
